No Exit
By Jean-Paul Sartre
Directed by Lola Bond

Performance dates: January 5-21, 2018

Don’t be shy, you were born to be a star! Join us at open auditions for Jean-Paul Sartre’s classic play, No Exit, at the Acrosstown Repertory Theatre!

Three damned souls, Garcin, Inez, & Estelle expect to be tortured for all eternity, but instead find a plain room furnished in Second Empire style. None of them will admit the reason for their damnation: Garcin says that he was executed for being a pacifist, while Estelle insists that mistakes have been made. Inez however, demands that they all stop lying to themselves and confess their crimes. Choose wisely, for “Hell is other people.”

Auditions will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday & Monday, October 22 & 23, at the theater– 619 South Main Street in the Baird Hardware complex, next door to Akira Wood and across from Heartwood Soundstage. You don’t have to be present both nights, but it doesn’t hurt. No prepared monologues required– expect cold readings from a provided script. Please also dress comfortably and be prepared to move!

Performance dates are January 5-21, 2018.

CHARACTER INFORMATION:

Joseph Garcin (Male, 30-50) – A journalist from Rio de Janerio and the first to arrive in the room. He claims to have been shot on the grounds of being a pacifist, but the dread of his own cowardice eats away at him throughout the play.

Inez Serrano (Female, 30-45) – A self-described “damned bitch,” she is the second prisoner and also the most hostile. Never does she argue that her damnation was a mistake; never does she attempt to defend her misdeeds. *Ability/Willingness to sing is a plus but not a requirement.

Estelle Rigault (Female, 20-30) – The third and final prisoner, she is also the most frightened. Having just died of pneumonia, she swears that she does not belong in hell.

Valet (Male/Female, 18+) – A taciturn representative of the devil who shows each prisoner to their room, answers their questions, and promptly leaves. **This character will also be the Stage/House Manager and will be asked to mix and mingle with patrons as they begin to enter the theater thirty minutes before each show begins.**

All races, colors, sizes, genders, gender-identities and experience levels welcome! Although this IS an audition, we’re not judgmental, and we hope you feel welcome here and have a great time. If cast you will be compensated by the roar of applause and the joy of being part of the Acrosstown family.

We look forward to seeing you at auditions for No Exit!
